The One With All The Yard Work

August 25-28, 2017
This past weekend had a little bit of everything!  But mostly, YARD WORK!  Lara was with us the whole weekend due to various factors, so we used her power to get some things done around the house.  Jake had a weekend off from various sports, so we actually got to be a normal family.  There was no crazy running all over Oklahoma, and we had time to get the front of the house looking better, read books, watch TV, and just chill as a family.  Precious and rare time, for sure!

Friday evening, Lara traveled for her first Pioneer Football trip.  They loaded up 3 buses and headed south, to Norman.  There was a bad storm rolling through central Oklahoma about the time they left, and they got caught in some of the weather, but still made it to the scrimmage on time.  As luck would have it, Stillwater went first in the "half game" portion, and those Pioneers made it back to Stillwater High School in time to participate in the last hour of the Howdy Week Rave.  (When I was in school, it was called the Howdy Week dance, but whatever!) This student gathering capped off a week of "welcoming" the new sophomores to the school and it's traditions - including a dress-up theme everyday. Lara was in High School Heaven!  She is really enjoying all the new things high school has to offer, and she is throwing herself into it full force to make sure she squeezes every drop of life out of it!

After a LATE Friday night (and a ride home so Mom and Dad could go to bed - I have very mixed emotions about this), all the Weavers slept in a bit before heading out to the front yard to tackle over a year's worth of growth and overgrowth in our "flower" beds.  We started with the big one.  The work wasn't too bad - expect trying to get the poles from the old rusty wrought iron fence out of the ground, and it was quick work with help from the boys.  Lara did some homework and then came out to assist for awhile as well.  We gave up when the sun came out and vowed to do the other one "later."

The rest of the day was spent lounging around and having a very RARE Lazy Saturday.  A book I had ordered for Lara came in the mail later in the afternoon, so she began reading "Everything Everything" by Nicola Yoon.  By the writing of this blog, she had finished. (My turn!)  I think that's the sign of a good weekend.

Sunday we went to Life.Church Stillwater and had a great lunch as a family.  We got a quick hug from Emma while we were at church - and got caught up a little bit on her Mulhall-Orlando stories! I love that we're able to connect like that - even for just a moment.  After we were back home, Sunday was pretty lazy, too.  Until  later afternoon when Finn insisted we head back outside to finish the "gardens."  Lara stayed inside to read for this one!  But, by bedtime the yard looked fresh and new and like humans lived in the house again.

This starts another week of high school firsts.  The first varsity Pioneer game of the season is this Thursday night in Edmond, and the kids have Friday AND Monday off from school.  Should be some great memories for the girls!
