August 2023

  • "August rain: The best of summer gone, and the new fall not yet born.  The odd, uneven time." - Silvia Plath
  • August was like a wrecking ball.  The wrecking ball was drawn back the first few days, awaiting its release, knowing something big was coming.  The month got underway, and the wrecking ball was released, moving slowly at first.  Many things were up in motion, and events moved us forward on our August path.  Then, by the end of the 2nd week, the momentum had picked up.  One started a new job, another started a new job, public school started, OSU started.  Tick... Tick... Tick... It was getting closer... The 3rd week was IMPACT!  Everything was happening at breakneck speed and it felt like we were cracking!  So many calendars and events and expectations, work was crazy, and everyone adjusting to big change! So. Little. SLEEP!  And the fourth week, was like the secondary hit for the wrecking ball - we were still brushing off the dust from the first hit, and the second came anyway - not as forceful, not as chaotic, but still a significant impact.  Each one of those hits reminded us we are alive!  We are well!  We are DOING THIS THING!  So while in the moment it was chaotic and painful and tiring (let's be real - EXHAUSTING), we can already reflect back and see the joy!  A fresh start!  What a month August was!
  • The first big event of August came on August 1 - when LARA GOT HER FIRST POST-GRAD BIG GIRL JOB!

  • Her love for Sports, Stillwater, and wrestling landed her a job as the office manager and museum curator for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum!

  • Next up - Britt's Birthday!  His birthday always comes during a super busy time, but we did manage to squeeze in a dinner (or 2? TGIFriday's and Razoo's that weekend...) and he bought himself a recliner.
  •

AAnnnnnnnd - Jake got his brown hair back!

  • The next week was when the wrecking ball really started gaining momentum!  Things were happening at a faster pace...
  • Britt Started his New Job!

  • Jake and the 2023 Back to Back GOLD BLOODED 6A State Champion basketball team got recognized at the Husky Kickoff

  • And Lara Beth MOVED BACK TO STILLWATER! (after 5 months of living in my home office)
  •

    (Evie, too!)

  • Finn and I got lunch after settling Lara in

  • Jake attended a camp at Oklahoma Baptist University and met up with a former Husky teammate who is now a Bison!

Finn and I spent a whole day together going to the orthodontist, the oral surgeon (more on that in the future), Chick-fil-a, and Bath & Body!  Fun day!

And, Lara had her first day at her new job

AND THEN!  The fun really started.  Back to school and ALL THE CRAZY!

Still dark, because his bus comes at 6:35am

6'10" makes Mom and Dad look short.  JUNIOR YEAR!

There are very few pictures after this! LOL  We had parent meetings and open houses, and OSU started, and , and , and... August was AUGUSTING!

Jake finally got to attend the church we'd been going to all summer, so we got him ice cream.  And somehow he and Britt ended up matching! :)

Celebrated National Dog Day with these 2 cuties:

Jasper (Mr. Personality) and Opal (All Sass, all the time)

On one of my Stillwater office days, I got to have lunch with Lara in her office at the NWHoF!  I got a private tour and a fun souvenir! Thanks, Lara!

As September dawns, I am relishing the new patterns and the new people in our lives.  The last 31 days have brought about SO MUCH CHANGE!  And change means growth.  So here is to an excellent school year!  Emma and Lara thriving as young adults paving their paths, and Britt and I living on Love!

6:35 am Bus Stop sunrises are a special treat.
Too bad it will be dark at that time soon...

Reading took a big back burner this month (of course!)  But the book we chose and read for our Hidden Oaks Book Club was INTENSE!  I was so glad I got to unpack it with my book club friends!  And one of our members has a 2-month-old baby boy who joined us at the end of the night.  BABIES!
