January 2025

  • "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. -- Mark Twain
  • January - a new beginning. It is now 2025 - a banner year in the Weaver household as another bird will fly the nest! Jake will graduate high school this year, and head off to college - somewhere... January reminds us that we have 12 new chapters to fill!  This year will be so full of lasts, but OH!  The FIRSTS! Jake embarking on a new journey.  Finn becoming an only child at home - time for him to come into his own in this family!  And WHO KNOWS what firsts the girls will spring on us this year!  Parenting adult children is a trip, and a fall, and a get back up again!  I love it.  I have learned so much about them and about us as a family watching them spread their wings and grow as young women out in the world!
January, however, also seems to last 104 days! LOL!  It starts out slow, lazy even.  Then as everyone gets back to school and back into a routine, the days get busier - but THEY JUST KEEP COMING!  It's cold, and dreary, but we just keep on keeping on!  We had a lot going on this month (as usual), and we were so glad to see January FINALLY end and turn the calendar to February.  Here are some highlights!

JANUARY 6
Finn's Annual Due Date Anniversary Pic!  13 years and 3 months!

We had a visitor for a few days.   Always love some Evie time.

We had our first significant snowfall - 100 hours of below 0 temps, and one full day of snowfall.  It only lasted about a day, but it was fun!

Next up? Huckie Homecoming!  Jake and his best friend Zayden escorted Skylar.  It was  a beautiful night!

There was more basketball, and mor elife, and then.... Jake turned 18!  The night before his birthday we have family game night... and there was some clandestine decorating!  He had a wonderful 18th birthday - playing basketball in a tournament.  Gotta love it!

He finished out celebrating his birthday with his first trip to the Casino with his over 18 basketball buddies.  He sisters each Venmo'd him $20, and he came out $12 ahead.  (He loves having adult sisters!)  Which he promptly spent at Whataburger!

Finished the last week of the month with more basketball, and another offer to play basketball in College. This one from Southwestern Christina College in Bethany, OK.

Mom and Dad date night!

Then, tragedy struck, and I spent a few days spiraling.

OSU Alumni Association:
Among the victims of this week’s tragic plane crash in Washington D.C. was one of our own.
On behalf of the entire Oklahoma State University community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of OSU alumna and former university employee Lindsey (Carter) Fields, as well as to all those affected by this devastating event. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.
As we mourn this profound loss, we are reminded of the strength and unity that define the Cowboy family. In times of tragedy, we come together to support one another, honoring the memories of those we have lost.

My heart plummeted when I got the text. One of the smartest, most creative, fun and friendly women I know was on board that ill fated plane from Wichita to Washington DC. She was headed to a conference for Biology educators. Lindsey Carter Fields was a college student at Oklahoma State University in the mid-aughts and I met her through Orange Pride. I was the staff sponsor of this women’s auxiliary group for Cowboy Football. She was one of the best! I could always count on her. She made me laugh. She helped keep things real. And she loved big.
I know the Wichita community, the Butler Community College campus, her Biology education family, her students, coworkers, friends and family are all mourning this loss. Her folks who “knew her when” are as well. Pray for her husband and children. And for those of us who feel a huge hole in our hearts today.
I already miss you, Lindsey. Tragic loss. My heart ACHES.

It was a complete rollercoaster. I was eating my lunch when I got a text at 11:59pm that shifted the ground beneath me. One of my OP girls left this world in a terrible, tragic, incredible midair collision. I had back to back work meetings at 1:30 and 2:30 that I somehow muddled through. I was contacted for an interview by KOTV - News On 6Tulsa and then KWTV News 9 OKC. I was honored to spend some time with photo journalist Jordan Fremstad News 9, who is phenomenal.

For being the LONGEST month, I really didn't get much reading done.  I slept through Hidden Oaks Books Club, and I don't even know what the book was for "Women on Guthrie."  But, it seems like I was on an author read, audiobook memoir journey of religious cults and sects.  I learned a lot.  Deconstructed a lot of my own upbringing, and basically had a 30 day therapy session.  The 31st day just brought back all the trauma.  But I will survive!  Always have!

Senior Sunday: February 2, 2025

He was a heckuva baseball player. Pitcher, 1st base, occasionally in the outfield. Dropping bombs on the regular. He loved the game. And his teammates. But basketball won out when the time came where we couldn’t do both any more. Those days were sure fun! #seniorsunday
