INJURY UPDATE: Jake's Knee

12 weeks.  It has been 12 LONG weeks since that crazy afternoon in Wichita, Kansas when Jake had a basketball collision that resulted in a growth plate injury.  12 long, hard weeks.  And I figured it was time for an update.  Walk, Jog, Run!

Since the last post about the injury, Jake started 6th grade - middle school.  He had to learn to navigate the busy halls on crutches, and use thee elevator to go between floors.  He even went to his first middle school dance - on crutches.

First Middle School Dance

He also went to numerous high school football games, his first live theatrical performance of any kind to see "Wicked," and various other activities all made more difficult by his reliance on crutches.

The week after Labor Day, we had a followup appointment with his orthopedic surgeon in Oklahoma City..  We received the BEST news, and Jake was so thrilled!  We were released to weight bearing with 4 weeks of PT on September 10.  He was so incredibly happy to be rid of the crutches!  Walk.

Of course, there was still lots of work to be done!  He spent the next 4 weeks going to physical therapy BEFORE SCHOOL 2-3 days a week to get stronger.  He also had home exercises that he did everyday.  After 2 weeks, he was able to ditch the elevator key and use the stairs like his friends.  Which was cool at first, but then he missed the elevator! LOL!  At the end of the 4 weeks of therapy, we were back at the orthopedic doctor in the City - hopeful for more good news.  GREAT NEWS!  The doctor released him to go back to basketball practice!  Easy at first, but he could get and get back in the swing of things.  Jog.

FLIPPIN' EXCITED video

We’re FLIPPING OUT because this big guy is FINALLY RELEASED TO FULL ACTIVITY!

Since then, he has eased back in to AET training (we're going once a week - hoping to get to 2x a week this month),  and weekly team practices.  The first day, he was 10 weeks post injury.  Jake's Coach told him to take it easy a couple times, but he refused. He hadn’t run a step in 10 weeks. At practice, he worked every step everyone else did. He did everything his teammates did. He might have been slow, he might have been out of breath, he might of been last. But he never quit. Since that first practice back, we've had to slow him down a bit, but he is working SO HARD to get back in shape and back in game form fir the first week of December when the team travels to Texas for a tournament.  He's doing GREAT and loving being back in the gym.

The One with Fall Break and a Sick Teenager

October 19 - 21, 2018

Because we seem to like Thursday night lights in Stillwater, this one starts on a Thursday as well.  Where the Stillwater Pioneers were 7-0 taking on Putnam City West at Pioneer Stadium, hoping to make it 8-0.

Spoiler Alter!  We did it.  And not only did we win, we SHUT THEM OUT!  This Pioneer team is really something special.  It was really cold, and kinda rainy, and this is what your student athletic training team looks like at the start of the game:

The rain held off, and it didn't get any colder when the sun went down, so it was not a terrible weather evening for football.  And the shut out made it QUITE NICE!  But, Lara had been feeling pretty puny all week, and actually called me before the game to ask if we could go to urgent care in the morning...

Poor Sicky Sick

Friday started off at Urgent Care!  Lara was dx'd with a sinus infection, and sent home with antibiotics and a prescription for rest and fluids.  Luckily, it was fall break so this was easy to accomplish.

Friday and Saturday were pretty chill.  Some laundry, a little cleaning, resting, relaxing, maybe some homework thrown in...  A nice break to the hustle and bustle of the first term of school.

By Sunday everyone was feeling better and more rested, so after early morning church, we headed to the Grider Farm Pumpkin patch south of Perkins.  It was a great (wet, muddy) adventure, and a fun time was had by all!

Emma had her own fall break with her family, too!  They went camping and took the horses to the Ouchita Forest and Ouchita Mountain area of Eastern Oklahoma.  She posted these pictures on Social Media, so I snagged them for the blog!

We have another Thursday Night Lights this week, and we are barreling towards Halloween!  What's next?!?

Finn Turns SEVEN!

S E V E N!!!!!

How in the world did our tiny little miracle boy turn seven?  I'm still not sure how, but happened.  October 5th.  He became a seven year old little boy!  He is so smart and funny.  He tells the best stories, has amazing handwriting, and knows so many things about so many things.  He is a great friend and a joy to be around.  He is so happy to have a piano in his house and cannot wait to start lessons soon.

So, this milestone birthday fell on a Friday.  Therefor, it was morning as usual for the Weaver clan!  We were up and around early to get Finn to school and Momma to work on time.  Dad was set to come to school later and bring the cupcakes for his class.  Of course, we have to have the obligatory picture sesh before loading up and heading to school!  We captures quite a range of Finn emotions and faces in these...

And because he loves "his" new piano, I have to include the little assignment from school that shocked and surprised us all!  Top is his "assignment" and bottom is an actual photo of the piano in our house from this week.

After a fun Friday at school celebrating his birthday in his class with all of his friends, it was time for Little Brother Duty as we loaded up and headed to Choctaw for a Pioneer Football game.  At halftime, Finn went with one of the 6th grade boys to play, and he fell in the grass.  But it wasn't just grass.  It was goat head stickers/grass stickers/burrs whatever you choose to call them.  HUNDREDS of them!  I was sitting in the stands alone as Britt and Jake had gone for a walk.  Here comes a hero mom friend carrying my son quite awkwardly because he is COVERED in these painful pokey things.  The boy he was with had come running to me to tell me, but my tribe beat him to it!  When she handed him over to me, she had about 20 stuck to her dress!  And there as no good way to hold him - he was literally COVERED int hem! Needless to say, it took 3 adults, 2 6th graders, and a student trainer about 15 minutes to pick over 100 of these buggers out of Finn's everything.  They were in his hair, his ears, his booty.  Covered his shoes and socks.  The pic shows the ones we laid on the bench - the other 2/3 are in that coke can.  And the aftermath.  Finn's stress response is sleep.  He slept though the 2nd half of a LOUD game, and all the way home...  Sad way to end his birthday!

Poor Little Dude!

Saturday morning the time had FINALLY COME for Finn's birthday party extravaganza at the Youth Fitness Zone!  He had invited a few friends, and some teens and tweens came along for the fun.  Poor Finn was pretty scratched up from his adventure the night before, but it did not deter him from having a great time!

Happy 7th Birthday Finn!
