April 2024

  • "April is the gateway to the joys of summer." -- Fennel Hudson
April flew by as well.  I swear, I felt like January lasted 99 days and each one of the drug by, and here we are starting MAY already!  April was the usual Weaver roller coaster - and the end off the school year is getting even closer - so we do ALL THE THINGS!  I love it because we get to celebrate so many fun moments, but I also hate it because t means another school year is coming to an end - and there just aren't very many of those left.. Especially for Jake!  By the next time I sit down at this keyboard for a blog entry, he will be a SENIOR!  The days are truly long and the years are incredibly short.

April brought on more basketball tournaments, school awards and ceremonies, Spring weather in Oklahoma, and upcoming changes for both of the big girls.  Lots of phone calls, plans made, money changing hands, and HOPE for the future.  What a sweet season for the young adults in my life, and all the milestones they are facing!  And my home boys are just thriving and looking forward to summer.

Emma and her live-in boyfriend Austin are buying a home and some land from one of Austin's family members.  They are working through legal issues since they are not married yet, and if they split up Emma doesn't want to loose the money and equity she is contributing to the purchase.  So, they have a contract with the family member for the buyout and ownership of the home, as well as a legally binding  co-habitation agreement to ensure they each are treated fairly in the (unlikely) event of a break up.  But, they also have a 4 year plan which includes marriage, so I feel like they are being very smart and intentional with their future.  VERY proud if them!  They will move in to their new home mid-May.

Lara is also on the move!  She had had her fill of living 3 blocks from the Oklahoma State campus and has found a cute one-bedroom apartment on the east side of Stillwater to move into next moth.  The unit is part of a family home that has been sub-divided.  She has the 1-bedroom unit on the first floor, another tenant the 2 bedroom apartment n the other end of the first floor, and the homeowner/landlord lives in the second floor.  It is a cool house - from the back it looks one story, but it is in a hill and the bottom floor is visible from the front of the house.  Lots of land close by to plat fetch with Evie!  They move in mid-May as well.  She also had a fun event in April...

April started off bad weather, with a slew of dentist/orthodontist/oral surgeon appointments for the boys, followed quickly by Nana's 76th birthday, state testing for Jake, and the Edmond North Huskies Basketball Banquet!  WHEW!

The bad weather made for some GREAT sunrises on my commute!

Jake also got a little shout out on an Oklahoma Prep basketball podcast.  Pretty cool to see other people taking notice of our guy!

Net up - a first!  The first time Jake and I travelled a lone to one of his basketball tournaments.  We spent the weekend in Dallas with his AAO Flight Pro16 team.  Fun just the 2 of us.  He thinks I talk to much! LOL!

A lot of basketball, a little sight seeing, and a trip all over the mid-cities area near DFW to find all the supplied needed to supports a TERRIBLE rolled ankle!  He injured it between the 2 games on Saturday,  Wrapped, braced, and played 2 more games.  WHEW!

It was a GOOD weekend!

Had to make a stop on the way home - Jake loves the Beaver! (It's tradition)

We had book club at a bar, there was an eclipse, Jake ended up n a boot for a week and missed a week of school ball practice and a weekend of Flight practice, and Finn got to welcome 5th graders to Sequoyah to hype up the choir program!

Wellness walk on campus where I got to see baby goslings; worked a Pete's Pet Posse event; checked out more books.  Living my best Stillwater life!

Sign of the times... IYKYK

AND it was prom season!  So we had Jake shenanigans to manage....

Lara and I hit up the Grand Opening of a local bookshop that we have fallen in love with!

Had a blast on the first VERY hot day of the season at our neighborhood party.  I won a $25 amazon card as a door prize, and promptly spent it on Jake's prom afterparty outfit...

Lara made a big girl decision...

I sense a theme...

Finn drove to Arkansas to spend a night with his coach (where he beat a 3 year old at 1v1), then he went with his team for a weekend tournament in St. Louis.  Dad and I watched the live stream from our couch,  There are no other photos or videos...

I was honored with a fun "Good Neighbor" award at work

Jake got some awards...

And then, PROM! - was canclled...

But they celebrated anyway - pics, dinner, after party!

The had a great time.  We are so grateful for the WONDERFUL group of friends Jake has made at Edmond North.  Truly a special group of young people and we are blessed to know them.

MY after party!

And on the last day of the month Dad had a twinning moment with a coworker!

AND!  Jake is enrolled as a Concurrent Cowboy at OSU for next Fall!

I managed to squeeze in a few books - mostly audio this month.  Between all the events and end of school year shenanigans, I just couldn't sit still to read!

April Reads:

"Bad Mormon" by Heather Gay

"Blank" by Zibby Owens

"It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover

"It Starts With Us" by Colleen Hoover

I didn't even attempt the Women of Guthrie Book Club book as we were travelling for basketball that weekend and the Hidden Oaks Book Club won't meet until the first weekend in May so I didn't have one for that category.

I am at 50% for my GoodReads 2024 Reading challenge goals!  April was still slow; May looks a little better - but it is MAY and thing are still HAPPENING!
