October 2024

  • "I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." -- Lucy Maud Montgomery, Ann of Green Gables
OK, October!  I see you!  You beautiful thing, you!  Thank you for being... well, ... OCTOBER!  It was everything!  I was so fun, and memoriabe, and beautiful, and happy, and celebratory and surprising, and so so much more!  It was a slightly slower pace before he dive head first into Jake's senior basketball season, and those last few weeks of the fall term where we're trying to finish the term successfully, and celebrate all the holidays!  WHEW!  But while it was still October, it was so beautiful!  The highlights will hopefully refresh many amazing memories for years to come.  So lucky for my tribe, my family, my awesome husband and kids.  And, the sweet sweet month of October.

Basketball Season Kicked off!  The team participated in the football Homecoming Parade at school, and I skipped a little work to tag along with Britt's class for the festivities.

Finn has his 13th birthday which included all the decorations, all the donuts, all the gifts, and dinner at Ted's!

And in what I thought was going to be a relaxing weekend with very little on the caleader, turned into the best surprise of my entire life when my family SHOCKED me with a surprise 50th birthday party in Stillwater.

My husband and kids pulled of a surprise party for my 50th birthday that I never EVER expected. I hate surprises. But this?!? Woah. So blessed. I bawled like a baby. And I seriously had NO CLUE! I was honestly shocked, and probably spent way too much time trying to figure out how people I am with hours in end day over day pulled it off. Seriously. NO. CLUE. It was truly the best party I could have ever asked for. I know many people were unable to be there, but know you were missed. Thank you to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum for being the venue. The cake was gorgeous and tasted amazing. Fuzzy’s is always good. Lara Elizabeth for the slide show and decor. Emma Horinek for the cupcakes and driving down. Jake Weaver for hiding champagne in his closet for weeks and not drinking it. And for all the labor today. Finn for learning new things about party planning. And my husband Britt Weaver for all the tiny details, sweat, anxiety, and LOVE! I love you so much babe! This was THE BEST day!

And in honor of Finn becoming a teenager, we took him to the Credit Union to get his first debit card.

Next up, Finn's Halloween Choir Concert!  Such a fun evening!

Some behind the scenes from Husky Media Day, and the Jake's final results...

Add to that, Jake got a little press to start of his Senior Season!

October on the OSU Campus is always a fun time!  Raising money for the United Way with Spook-o-grams; the cold weather blast and facilities wasn't quite ready, and fall break - for the students anyway!

My dad has another short stint in the hospital, and in trying to get there, Britt and I experienced another first: driving the wrong way on the highway and up an off ramp to get out of a 3 hour delay due to a wreck...  Dad stayed 2 nights this time - he is GREAT now!

Jake spent Fall Break as a counselor at Celebration Camp.  He had such a good experience last year as a camper, he decided to be a leader this year!

We attended a 2 year old's birthday part with the BEST Tornado theme!

And then Homecoming week at OSU started... Lara and I continued our tradition of meeting on Library Lawn to see all the awesome signs - but there was a wind storm and most of them were laying down...

Ad as if October adn this week specifically could not be any crazier, we squeezed in a quick trip to Hillsboro, Kansas for an official basketball visit for Jake to Tabor College!

The boys threw together some Halloween costumes and brought home more candy than we ever imagined possible.  Fun month for sure!

October was a fun one!  Not too busy until that last week which was INSANE (Spoiler alert - so was Week 1 of November which is why is is Nov. 10 as I type this!)  We're heading into scrimmages for November, then December has all the winter things! I'm ready!  Let's GO!

Read some books, too, while it was not so busy.

"The Education of Dixie Dupree" by Donna Everhart

"If He Had Been With Me" by Laura Nowlin

"Remember me Tomorrow" by Fara Heron

"The Bookstore Sisters" by Alice Hoffman

*"The Long Flight Home" by Alan Hlad (Hidden Oaks Book Club pick)

"The Bookstore Wedding" by Alice Hoffman

"The Housemaid's Secret" by Freida McFadden

October... Book Clubs - Hidden Oaks was cancelled for weather and I didn't even try for A Novel Idea's!
