Don't Quit

Another LinkedIn post I wanted to save for posterity...  (last of 3 about Jake and Freshman basketball...)

Don’t quit before it hits.

A month ago, I talked about grit.
Two months ago, leadership.

And then—out of nowhere—everything changed.

There was no countdown to this moment.
No “we knew this was coming.”

In fact, it was the opposite. He had already made the decision to stay the course for another year. Head down. Work. Wait. Keep going.

And then one phone call, at the end of a completely ordinary day, set off a 9-day whirlwind we never saw coming.

What people see now is the moment — the offer, the jersey, the “he’s a Lion.” 🦁

What they don’t see is how close this was to being a much longer wait.

Because here’s the truth:
👉 The opportunity showed up after he had already committed to continuing without it.
No guarantees.
No shortcuts.
No change in effort “just in case something happens.”

Just consistency. Just discipline. Just choosing not to quit.

And then—it hit.

That’s what grit actually looks like.
That’s what patience actually requires.

Not waiting around…

but preparing like it might take longer than you want it to.
I’m incredibly proud of where he landed.

But more than that, I’m proud that he was ready—
even when we thought this moment was still a year away.

Don’t quit before it hits.
